Well It’s that time of year again, and I can already feel the pressure beginning to mount. Can you?
Christmas time for people with ADHD can be a pretty scary place.
Why? Well, when you think about all the conditions we work hard to put in place all year long to keep ourselves afloat and ticking over nicely, you begin to get the picture.
Things like; structure, routine and habits, organization habits, optimal functioning from our medication or our diet and exercise plans. Not to mention the avoidance of ove-timulation and over indulgence. Both of which can contribute to our lives becoming even more scattered and unmanageable.
Then consider the normal circumstances of the holidays; the lack of routine, more parties, over indulging in food, drink and way too much sugar! The organizational demands of card and gift giving, and the great swathes of unstructured time.
All of this conspires to create the ‘perfect storm’. So what can we do about it?
Well, there’ plenty we can do, but it does require a little (not a lot) planning… But that ‘little bit’ of planning up front can help alleviate so much of the fall out, and diminish greatly the negative consequences like; the fuzzy head, the emotional highs and lows , the loss of direction, and the feelings of overwhelm, anxiety and even depression that follow.
Next Tuesday the 13th of December I will be delivering more about this topic on my Monthly topic webcast for the insiders program at Dr Kenny Handelman’s informative website; www.attentiondifferencedisorder.com I hope you can come and join me and find out exactly what you can do to help make this season a more peaceful, calm and healthy one for the whole family.
