Steve Jobs, inspiration for the ADHD community

PDFPrintE-mail

It’s all over the news, a great innovator has died. Steve Jobs, the founder and former CEO of Apple, will be remembered for much more than just his influence in the world of technology.

He was also passionate about life, and in particular about doing what you ought to be doing with that life, following your passion, working in a field that you love. To quote him here;

Your work is going to fill a large part of your life, and the only way to be truly satisfied is to do what you believe is great work. And the only way to do great work is to love what you do. If you haven’t found it yet, keep looking. Don’t settle. As with all matters of the heart, you’ll know when you find it. And, like any great relationship, it just gets better and better as the years roll on. So keep looking until you find it. Don’t settle.”

These are wise words. Of course, they are not new. There are Buddhist quotes of yore that say the same thing, but Steve Jobs was a great example of someone who did exactly that. He walked the walk….

From an ADHD point of view, it’s our tendency to be bored and easily distracted when we engage in tasks or work which we do not “love". Therefore, for us, it’s even more imperative that this way of being is our credo… Doing what we love helps us to overcome some of our biggest challenges and allows our strengths and natural creative abilities to shine through…The best way to ensure our success is to make sure we align what we do, with who we are, and stay on the path of creating careers for ourselves that speak to our passion.

Thanks for the inspirational words Steve, but even more than that, thanks for the inspirational living example of what happens when you live by them!
